Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide analog of the ACTH(4-10) fragment (Met-Glu-His-Phe) with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide extension. The added sequence protects the peptide from rapid enzymatic degradation, extending its stability relative to the unmodified fragment. Like other ACTH-derived fragments, it lacks the corticotropic (adrenal-stimulating) activity of the parent hormone.
